How IT can be Green!

As we head towards the shortest day of the year we thought we would take a look back at our offices solar generation and see what our green impact has been since we moved in to our new offices in 2024.

As we head towards the shortest day of the year, we thought we would take a look back at our offices solar generation and see what our green impact has been. We love to play ‘guess the solar generation today’, but unfortunately the winter months aren’t as much fun as the summer months!

Back in April we moved into our new office which features 2 solar arrays with a total of 58 panels. During this time we’ve had some lovely sunny days but also a lot of wet and grey days, but throughout we’ve been generating lots of power. In total we have created 34MWh! This is far higher than the energy we use in the office (even with our electric car chargers and Pete’s pot noodle habit!) so we’ve been able to export back to the grid enough to power 10 average 3 person households for a year! We love to be green and go out of our way to ensure we do all we can to reduce the impact on our planet.

Some other interesting numbers for the fact fans!

  • CO2 saved: 6.2 ton
  • Equivalent trees planted: 380
  • Peak month: June – 6.4 MWh
  • Lowest month: November – 0.8MWh

In the office we have low energy lights everywhere which go off when people are not in the room. We try and reduce waste where possible and recycle what we can.

Outside of the office we use a lot of electricity in the data centre powering our cloud platform. So to ensure that’s green, all our power is ‘green power’ which means we are paying for that amount of generation from renewable sources being put into the grid.

Lastly, to continue our efforts to be green and to demonstrate the importance of reducing our carbon footprint, we have planted another 380 trees to match our solar savings. These trees will be planted around the world via Ecologi ensuring the best impact from them, both absorbing carbon but also benefiting other communities around the globe.
